About Joe
Joseph S. Sturniolo shelved his first love, a career in teaching drama and mounting plays, to better support his growing family as a stock broker and later as the owner of his own very successful wealth management firm.
The Retirement Revolution
In the course of assisting his financially secure clients with retirement planning, he realized the real issue for many of them - as it was for him - was not about having enough money in retirement. It was about not having enough meaning in retirement.
Aided by two psychologists with expertise in life transitions, he developed multi-day workshops for his clients, and later the public at large. The workshops help people rediscover or reconnect with long-abandoned gifts and passions, as he puts it, "awakening the lion within."
Soon, for Joe the workshops moved from being a part-time labor of love to a long-term commitment. He began a unit of his company called ROAR to organize his ROAR "Retirement Revolution" workshops. He began a ROAR membership organization that provides ongoing support and community for workshop participants.
After three decades away from teaching and employing his flair for public speaking and theatrical techniques, in his workshops Joe Sturniolo now has found that his own journey at last has led him home.
Advocacy and authorship
He has become a leading advocate for baby boomers who seek to do more in the next phase of their lives besides playing golf or bridge. His comments on the topic have been featured in the Wall Street Journal and the retirement planning sections of a number of financial planning publications. In spring of 2008, a book that imparts the 13 lessons of his ROAR Retirement Revolution workshops will be published (Morgan James Publishing, New York). The book, subtitled "Awakening the Lion within," is called "The Caterpillar that Roared."
Accomplished public speaker
A former financial markets commentator for one of Denver's leading radio stations, Joe Sturniolo is a deft and powerful speaker.
He has addressed numerous groups of all sizes on the topic of rediscovering and employing long-dormant skills and passions as an alternative to conventional retirement. In the fall of 2007, he led a "Retirement Revolution" class at the University of Denver's University College.
